One of the key advantages of investing in this area is how passive it is. It allows you to organize resources and invest for the long-term stability of yourself and your family. With modern communication and Information Technologies, coordination and management of these processes and services is easier than ever before. What we have done so far testifies that it can be done by anyone who is willing to operate differently.
Below is a slightly more detailed overview of the above processes and how they are implemented with Green Industries Managment Systems.
Land Acquisition Processes
Although there are complex steps in the process of Land acquisition, it is important to present a simplified version for any potential investor. For more details check out land acquisition tab on menu.
-
Land scouting and notification of sale.
-
Understand the land tenure system at the location under consideration.
-
Arrange initial meetings with the seller
-
You must make your own inquiries and perform extensive background checks on the land and the seller.
-
Agree on a date to survey the land by a qualified Surveyor
-
Discuss final agreement on financing and resources
-
Arrange payments, the signing of agreements.
-
Lastly, you arrange new title transfer to your names.
-
After that, your land is fully owned by you and ready for use.
Land Preparation
Before utilizing Land for commercial agroforestry, careful preparations must be made.
-
Clearance: Removes shrubs, couple of trees, and weeds
-
Cultivation: In some good places, you can plant directly without cultivation. This step can often be skipped if the place is judged to be so fertile.
-
Tractor cultivation: You can use a tractor to prepare the land for planting. This step is very useful to mingle soil and improve aeration and ease of penetration by young Eucalyptus roots.
-
Perimeter setting: It's essential to set up a perimeter around the forest that functions as a buffer zone between the edge of the forest and your neighbors.
-
Drainage System: channels that move water out of your commercial project should be set up to allow water to move especially for the upcoming rainy seasons
Tree Nursery Management
Life of any strong, tall and beautiful tree in a large commercial agroforestry begins in a Tree Nursery.
The most important aspect of a tree nursery is selection of the appropriate species for your intended purposes.
Although there are hundreds of species available on the market today, the Eucalyptus South African Variety has the greatest potential in commercial agroforestry. It grows fast, tall, straight and gets you strong timber products. It's incredibly climate resilient.
This variety is prepared with sandy black soils in a green house and its ready for planting within 2 months.
It's important to know this information in order to plan ahead.
Pest Control and Measured Tree Planting
Pest management includes solutions that eliminate termites from your land because these will cut down immature trees and find their way deep into your tree and damage outcomes in terms of timber quality and strength.
Standard spacing varies with the purpose/objective of the project. Our standard planting spacing is 9ft. In some areas with very good soils, this can be reduced to 6ft.
This spacing interval allows a standard large truck to pass through freely.
To ensure accurate spacing, we use the Grid Method.
Fencing shortly after planting is essential to keep out any grazing animals at this delicate stage.
Forest Maintenance
Early-stage maintenance is absolutely essential to the success of commercial agroforestry projects.
The most important period is the first 2 years.
In the first 2 years, it's extremely important to care for the young treelings because at this stage they're delicate and susceptible to weeds and extreme sunshine and drought conditions.
Weeding is done at least three times a year for the first year and then twice a year in the second year to keep the forest clean. Watering can be done as needed in the first 6 months to ensure a strong start to the project.
In the 3rd year, the canopy is quite impressive that the weeding requirements go down to once a year.
After the second-year, careful pruning can be done using the recommended methods and tools.
Harvest and processing
Harvesting time varies depending on your investment objectives. The value of each tree goes up exponentially with time.
Within about 3-4 years, you can harvest poles for house construction. These typically are valued less ~3 USD each but can still be great output.
At 10- 12 years, the value goes up significantly to ~30 USD each.
At 20 years, If one is thinking strategic long term and allows each to grow to significant height and girth, you can expect ~60 USD for each.
You can use the above information to calculate your projected outcomes.
